A belated Happy Holidays everyone! The festive season sure did come and go fast, didn’t it? It seems like only the other day we were putting the tree up! Like many of you, I have spent some time as of late considering the past year, and planning my goals for the coming year (which is now here, of course).
I encourage all of you to look over your finances from 2008, and see where you can make improvements, and maybe even where you can splurge a little more. It’s not until we really look at the numbers that we see exactly what is spent where. Sometimes there can be quite a few surprises, as all the little things really do add up.
I have to admit, I still have quite a bit of holiday shopping left to do, and odds are, many of you do as well. If you’re like me, and are trying to get great gifts while keeping to a budget, I recommend that you check out TheWatchery.com.
TheWatchery is an excellent e-commerce website that offers a large variety of high-quality, brand name watches, at surprisingly affordable prices. While this is true of TheWatchery all year long, their prices are especially fantastic right now, as they are having a clearance sale. On their website, you’ll find deals that are up to 90% off MSRP, with up to 80 % off on luxury watches. Also, especially important for Christmas shoppers is that TheWatchery offers free shipping, and you’ll still be able to get your gift before Christmas!
Personally, I’ve been looking for a watch that my significant other will love, and was happy to find a stylish watch for a great bargain at TheWatchery. While browsing their selection of automatic watches, I found a few that I like, but the Movado pictured above really stuck out to me. It’s a great fashionable watch that he can wear both for work, and when we go out on the town. And for under three hundred dollars, it won’t break my holiday budget!
Soda is full of sugar and calories, which does a number on both our teeth and weight — and it’s certainly not frugal, either. I posted about trying to quit soda back in September, and then, subsequently, about my failure to stop drinking soda, later that same month.
Well, it’s December now, and I’m happy to say that I’ve finally done it! I know some of you have also struggled with quitting sugary drinks, so I wanted to let y’all know how I did it. First of all, it was as if something changed in my mind, and I knew, this time, that I would succeed. Soda was not going to control me anymore. Okay, that probably sounds really silly to you who haven’t been addicted to the sugary substance, but, for me, it’s no joke. I’ve been trying to shed ten pounds for quite some time now, and it just wasn’t going to happen while drinking a coke or two every single day. In fact, it was becoming a struggle to maintain my current weight!
So how did I do it? Cold turkey, baby! And really, while there were times that I craved a soda, just knowing that I would not have one — no way, no how — made the feeling pass rather quickly. However, there is something I would recommend to anyone trying to quit soda, and that is club soda. Club soda contains no sugar, calories, caffeine, aspartame, or really much of anything, but it is carbonated water, and has that fizzy taste/feel. Whenever I would normally drink a soda, I now drink a club soda. I believe it has made this process 100 percent easier.
And do you know what’s really great about going from one to two sodas daily to zero? Weight falls off without any further changes. Having a soda with a meal, actually makes people eat more, in addition to theĀ 100 to 200 calories in the actual soda. Thankfully, due to quitting coke, other sodas and sugary drinks in general, I am finally on my way to losing that ten pounds.
